August 29 Tariff Update

August 29 Tariff Update

I'm sure you've heard that the De Minimis exception is ending August 29 (unless TACO changes the date again). Simply put, all orders coming into the US will now be charged a tariff at customs. How much that tariff is depends on the country.

This is 100% a tax on US consumers and not the countries. We will all be paying more for everything. Prices have been rising for the last few months as companies prepared for the tariffs, and many companies have gone from absorbing the cost of tariffs to passing them along.

Meanwhile, some shipping partners are no longer shipping to the United States at all, meaning shipping is also going to go up as limited carriers will handle US shipments and the cost to handle customs add up. There is little escape from the effects of these tariffs.

US Pug Life Products

We always try to be as transparent as possible where our products are made, and if they use elements sourced from other countries. While most of Made in the US products will not be affected by the de minimis change, prices may still be headed up. Whether an element is imported or the printed uses machines with parts from China, the cost of manufacturing may rise. In many cases, we are not going to raise prices (yet!). While our profit may suffer, we want to offer quality at a fair price.

Pug Life Products from outside US

UK products are subject to a 10% tariff. Vietnamese orders are subject to a 20% tariff. Canadian products should not be subjected to tariffs, as they fully certified under the USMCA, they continue to qualify for customs exemption at this time. Delays may happen at the border as CPB adjust to the new system.

How any of this actually affects your orders is almost a mystery at this point. We have been working with our suppliers to minimize any additional charges and absorbing or incorporating these into our pricing when we can. What we do know is with shipping companies refusing to ship to the US and the US ill-prepared for tariffs on millions of small orders, orders may be held at customs. We sincerely apologize for any delays.

If you do get hit by a surprise tariff charge, please email us right away with your receipt and proof of payment and we will reimburse you at this time. Our shipping model is set up so we pay the tariffs, not you, as required by the EO, but I have little faith US Customs will handle this correctly.

What if I live outside the US?

Good news, you don't live in the chaos of the United States; however, some countries have imposed retaliatory tariffs on US goods, which may affect our US products. We have actively been working to ship more products directly from the UK, EU, Canada, Australia, and even Vietnam to help avoid higher prices for our international customers. Many of these items only ship to the countries they originate from and shipping time should be quick!

The best way to shop for products is to check out our collections from a location near you! You'll get the best prices and the fastest shipping. But we know that's not always possible, so please bear with us as we wade through this mess together.
